They Come At Night has the DNA of Tim Burton stamped all the way through it - that particular combination of genuine menace and dark whimsy that makes something unsettling rather than simply frightening. Shrieking strings arrive with cold alarm, whilst a childlike glockenspiel picks out notes that somehow manage to be both innocent and deeply wrong at the same time. Pounding drums and a distorted guitar bass add industrial weight, and a choir lurks in the background providing grandeur to the darkness.
