It's Not Over 'Til The Bossa Nova occupies the specific and genuinely useful musical territory of elevator music done well - which is to say, music that is relaxed, inoffensive, pleasant, and entirely appropriate for situations where the goal is to fill silence without creating any other particular feeling. Jazzy guitar plods along with bossa nova's characteristic gentle swing, female vocals add a soft, slightly soporific presence, and assorted percussion - bongos, guiro, cowbell, woodblock - provide the Latin rhythm section in miniature. The piece is, as the original notes admit with great honesty, boring in exactly the right way. This is not a criticism. Some situations require exactly this.
