Gaslighting: Gaslighting is manipulating someone into doubting their own perception of reality — denying what demonstrably happened, reframing cruelty as kindness, and insisting that what you just watched occur didn't happen the way you saw it. The term comes from a 1944 film where a husband secretly dims the gas lights then tells his wife she's imagining it.
