Cody Track

Cody (Larry W. Jones 10/14/2006) (song#4061)
Cody was a roaming cowboy
He knew every trail around
Seems he was bound to destroy
Any friend that he had found
And it’s a long old ride without her by his side
|
A few years back he left town
Headed for the wild west trail
No one could ever whittle down
Young Cody by gun or nail
And it’s a long old ride without her by his side
|
But in the chill of the desert night
Cody could only dream of holding her tight
|
He panned for the gold in California
And thought of her golden hair
The girl that Cody had left behind
Somehow seemed to be always there
And it’s a long old ride without her by his side
|
Now I know you all want a happy ending
About young Cody and his would-be bride
But some fences just aren’t for mending
Especially now that cowboy Cody died
|
At a little gathering in the valley
The folks laid him in repose
Cody had reached his finale
And a woman nobody knows
Came and laid a final rose
It was a long old ride without her by his side
|
Cody was a roaming cowboy
