After The Beep Track

After The Beep (Larry W. Jones 11/24/2006) (song#4177)
By the time he thought to call her up
Once again he was late and stuck at work
So he thought he’d better skip the old routine
He called home and counted the rings
Then he thought she had gone berserk
These words were on the message machine
|
Dear John, leave a message after the beep
But I won’t be list’nin’ to hear you weep
That job of yours don’t pay enough to keep me here alone
And don’t bother rushing home right now
I’m through brushing tears back anyhow
Just leave a message after the beep because I’m gone
|
He used to call to say when he’d arrive
Never worked past that nine to five
But that was before things took a dive
Working past nine to five, leavin’ her alone
|
Once again he was late and stuck at work
He called home and counted the rings
Then he thought she had gone berserk
These words were on the message machine
|
Dear John, leave a message after the beep
But I won’t be list’nin’ to hear you weep
That job of yours don’t pay enough to keep me here alone
And don’t bother rushing home right now
I’m through brushing tears back anyhow
Just leave a message after the beep because I’m gone
