Paris, the city that once shook the world
Paris, once a city of love
Paris, do its cafes still call to you?
Paris, will it win its freedom?
Fleeing from the tyrants and the same old scenes
Flying over oceans and the sea
Landing in an airport very easily
Hopping on a metro to be free.

Throngs of tourists marching all around the rues
Lonely students walking past the stores
Shopping, eating, talking, strutting, wearing clothes and jewels
Lining up for movies that do bore
Looking for a hotel with the one I love
Finding many hotels all "complet"
Trying to survive using a new language.
Embracing at the end of the day.

Walking in a bookstore looking for rebels
Seeing how the Sorbonne seems so dead
Crossing the Seine past the Cathedral
Huge walls of the Louvre pass my head.
Loads of tourists purchase near the Arc de Triumphe
Shopkeepers and workers fill their slots
Different classes live in different arrondisements
Newspapers still speak for those on top.

Let me take from Paris its memories
Of lives laid down for liberty
Of people who did fight hard once for equality
The Resistance and the Paris Commune scenes.
