Eleven café tracks in three groups: four cocktail jazz cuts, five cool jazz ones, and two corporate beds. The fact worth knowing before you pick anything: four of the five cool jazz tracks have no measurable tempo at all. They are played in free time, with no beat to follow — one of them has neither a tempo nor a detectable key — which makes them unusually easy to lay under dialogue, since there is nothing for speech to fight. The fifth cool jazz cut is the exception, and at eighty-six beats per minute it is the slowest number in the album. Among the cocktail four, two share a hundred and forty-four beats per minute and go opposite ways: one is minor-key and almost drumless and reads as late night, the other is major-key and flatter and reads as brunch. The two corporate beds cover the other end: one sits at a hundred and eighteen, a tempo nothing else here occupies, and the other is eighty-eight seconds long and meant as an intro rather than a bed.
