Tommaso Motteran is a partially self-taught composer and sound artist with a background in orchestral music, jazz, and ethnomusicology.
His approach to music is strongly visual and synesthetic: sounds are imagined not simply as notes or textures, but as characters, creatures, objects, spaces, and forces interacting inside a sonic world. Composition becomes a kind of sandbox, where musical elements can collide, mutate, behave unexpectedly, and sometimes break the rules.
He is particularly interested in the expressive potential of imperfection, the unstable note, the unexpected gesture, the strange timbre, the sound that seems out of place but somehow belongs. Rather than treating musical errors as something to eliminate, he sees them as events with their own right to exist, capable of opening paths that a more controlled approach might never reveal.
Drawing from orchestral writing, jazz, folk and traditional music, experimental sound design, and cinematic composition, his work moves freely between styles and aesthetics. The goal is not to follow a single musical language, but to build distinctive sonic environments where every sound has a role, a personality, and a reason to exist.
