“I Dreamed of a Carol“ was the first song I wrote for this album. It also tells a bit of my story. I've always had a soft spot for (good) Holiday music and always wanted to write a Christmas song. So I wrote about someone dreaming (”in a quiet little dream") of writing a Christmas song that brings the world the peace it craves. Cheesy and ironic? Yes, sure, especially considering how well it works out in the song: "My song made the world just as I had dreamed". But above all, it has turned into a song about the exaggerated hopes and dreams that people project onto the holiday season. “I Dreamed of a Carol” also inspired me to write more songs about the sad and true Christmas: about loneliness, about toxic family relationships, about consumerism and about the forgotten people on the fringes of society.
In a quiet little dream where the snow softly falls
I lived with a wish that would echo through halls
I yearned to craft verses, with melody and rhyme
A song to transcend both, places and time
I dreamed of a carol, as pure as the night
That could turn bitter foes into friends in its light
A melody soothing, like whispers of peace
To mend every wound and bring sorrow's release
Sing with me, let the music flow
Through the hearts of the lost, in the cold winter's glow
Feel the warmth that the melody brings
As we join in the chorus, where every heart sings
In the spirit of love, let our voices unite
Bringing peace to the world on this lonely and holy night
With a pen in my hand and hope in my chest
I worked through the nights, denying all rest
I sought out the chords that would capture the hearts
For I long that my song the world's healing would start
Sing with me, let the music flow
Through the hearts of the lost, in the cold winter's glow
Feel the warmth that the melody brings
As we join in the chorus, where every heart sings
In the spirit of love, let our voices unite
Bringing peace to the world on this lonely and holy night
I imagined a world where the lost souls would sing
Where hatred and anger and pain aren't a thing
Where the sound of my tune, in a magical way
Warmth and hope to the darkest of day
And so on one Christmas, my song filled the air
A melody simple, yet wondrously rare
And in the glow of the fire and the soft candle's gleam
My song made the world just as I had dreamed
Sing with me, let the music flow
Through the hearts of the lost, in the cold winter's glow
Feel the warmth that the melody brings
As we join in the chorus, where every heart sings
In the spirit of love, let our voices unite
Bringing peace to the world on this lonely and holy night
In the spirit of love, let our voices unite
Bringing peace to the world on this lonely and holy night
