We are all apes
We can be proud to say
Because apes are magnificent creatures
With powerful brains

We are all apes
Building complex societies
Securing resources
Extending our borders
And sending billionaires to space

Orangutans are peaceful
Chimpanzees wage war
Homo sapiens conquered this planet
And we want more

Can’t deny we’re great
Though our ascent was an accident
Two million years and some chance mutations
We arrived to consume and profligate

No need to wonder
Why things are the way they are
Just remember

We are still apes
No one knows what will be our fate
