MetaCast 01: What is This?

Alan Levine: I think that music should set the tone for what I'm doing here.
Hi there. My name's Alan Levine. I work for an organization called Open Education Global. We're a member-based nonprofit organization, trying to advance the practices and ideas of open education around the world. That may or may not mean anything to folks out there in the Free Music Archive, but it is important work that we do.
And for the past two years, I've been running a podcast that we call OEG Voices. We are talking to people who in our world who do this work in open education. We run our podcast already at our own site podcasts dot oe global dot org.
Since I've been doing this and because I believe so strongly in the importance of making use of openly licensed music, for each episode, I've chosen a different track from the Free Music Archive, trying to match it to the topic or the theme, or just the feel of the episode. And it's sort of a fun thing that I do. But I really greatly appreciate what FMA provides us.
Over the last couple of months, I've gotten to know some people at FMA, they've given us a curator channel. They've been very helpful in solving some issues with creating a playlist for our various songs that we've used.
And now they said you can have a channel. And I thought, well, we already do a podcast. What can I do? And I came up with this idea. I call it the Meta Podcast or Metacast. It's a podcast about the podcast.
And it will be a short episode, maybe one to three minutes long, depending on how long I sit here and yak. But more or less, it'll be a trailer, an intro for a different episode and the music that we've chosen and why. And then we'll tell you where to go listen to the full episode.
So this is just the intro to the MetaCast. I will just start going into some of our past episodes and talk about the music that we've used from the Free Music Archive.
I have to say, I just love what they're doing here at FMA, and I want to support their work. And I hope that it is the place that many other people go to to find openly licensed music for the various projects.
So with that, let's just go back to the music.
