Description

Right after exit 12 on the Staten Island Expressway (Interstate 278), going east, there used to be a dirt road turnoff on the right (as depicted on the album cover) that actually leads to nowhere except a big pile of I can't tell from the satellite pictures. There was a huge rock there after the road that looked like a sleeping dog, at least to me and my brother, and we called it "Dog Rock".

If you follow the historical satellite imagery on Google Earth, you will see that they filled in the road around the year 2013. But I found the earliest available Google Maps Street View from 2007, and the rock is more fully visible, though the resemblance to a sleeping dog is lost on my older eyes.

Nothing a good painting can't fix up for an album cover...

And the walking person on the road was just the right touch this album cover needed.

Oh, Dog Rock, why do you weep at night?

This song was a knock on the police, who I had a bone to pick with...

They had to chase me, to fill up their quota of caught teenagers for the month, so they could earn the big medal...

I wasn't even doing anything wrong, really.

Lyrics

Dog Rock
Dog Rock
Why do you weep at night
Why do you sit there in
Cold smelly smog air
In old smelly dog hair
You're already shot here

You could get up anytime you want
You could set up any sting you thought
You could have been a great doggy this year
But fell short just one unlucky dear

Dog Rock
Dog Rock
That's why you weep at night
