Seven Latin jazz cues, six samba jazz ones and a single salsa. Inside each group the tracks are close enough that the useful information is the numbers. The slowest here runs at ninety-nine beats per minute; the fastest at a hundred and fifty-two, and it still holds a flat level, which is why it works under talk. One extended cut runs four minutes sixteen — nearly a minute longer than anything else — and covers a whole segment without a loop point. The shortest is eighty-seven seconds and starts at full speed. One samba gives the rhythm section the largest share of the mix in the album; another mixes the batucada so light that it lives in the phrasing rather than the volume. The salsa is the outlier: three and a half minutes held at a high level from first bar to last, the one track here that will not sit under dialogue.
