Nine tracks opening a new series after eight straight albums of corporate beds — long-form drones, sleep material and slow-motion textures rather than short spot cues. Four of the nine share C major, the most common key here, and one track breaks into A minor, the only minor-key piece on the record and also its fastest, at a hundred and fifty-two beats per minute. The two extremes that usually pull apart on an ambient record land on the same track instead: one two-minute cue is at once the most percussive recording on the album and the widest in dynamic range. A second contradiction sits at the close — the longest piece here, nearly six minutes and the second-longest track in the entire 745-track catalogue, is also the loudest recording on the album by measured level, despite having virtually no percussion and the narrowest dynamic range of the nine. Length, stillness and loudness turn out not to be the same axis. Elsewhere, one track ranks among the slowest tempos in the whole catalogue, and another ranks among its sparsest tracks for percussion — genuinely rare qualities, not just relative to this record.
