Biography
The brothers began performing as a duo in the 1930's, travelling around around India to showcase their talents. Raja Rao was a longtime performance art student and composer, who would continue writing music long after the pair stopped playing shows together. The introduction of Gramophone recording technology in the late 1930's allowed the brothers to record a couple of compositions, mostly from the collection of Mysore Vasudevacharya. Both Raja and Gopala are virtuosos of the veena, the South Indian, lute-related instrumented featured prominently in Carnatic music.
