Hey Hey Romeo by Shiny Brites
Blackballed is pure nihilism set to a minor-key dirge. Over the course of the song, the guitar gradually builds up to a frenzy of wailing noise-feedback-sound. Begrudged is the singer justifing why she sings: "I've given in too many times/so don't begrudge me. . . ." The bass backs her up with a twisted bossa-nova beat and the guitarist supplies more terrifying out-riffing. Time Passed Away imagines life in a mental institution while the electric guitar tick-tocks to the akilter boom of the bass.Hey Hey Romeo is about an unapologetic bad girl. The bass gets into a mock-jazzy march and
the guitar slips in little weird fillips of sound before launching into another freakout.Black Tears is a tribute to '50s slowdance tunes a la David Lynch. The guitarist had equipment problems but took full advantage of them by unleashing weird electric POPs and CRACKs at strategic moments. Don't Shit on Me rounds it out with a driven noise-fest in the best style of Sister Ray. The guitarist is particularly proud of this track but all the bassist remembers is that his wrists hurt for a few days after recording this.
