Description

In which Watson discovers what Holmes does for work. We also learn of a hideous crime committed in Lauriston Gardens.

Lyrics

One morning in the flat, Holmes and I were sat
I read an article and it referred
To the claims of the writer
A quite conceited blighter
Whose aims, to me, seemed really quite absurd

It was an introduction to the power of deduction
To this writer, observation was the key
Such twaddle drove me wild
I told Holmes then he smiled
‘Dear Watson, well
‘That writer, it was me!’

It’s all down to the science of deduction
Keen observation will lead us to the facts

Off Brixton Road the house did dwell
Empty it was, with a musty smell
Inside there lay a corpse so cold
Ohio man, four decades old

Enoch Drebber, Cleveland, USA
Enoch Drebber, Cleveland , USA

The man’s tophat lay to his side
Next to where he had done died
The look of horror on his face
Made me want to leave that place

Lauriston Gardens, down from Camberwell
Lauriston Gardens, down from Camberwell

Marks of blood were splat around
No wound on the man was found
A wedding ring was on the floor
And "rache" written on the door

Not Miss Rachel, German for revenge
Not Miss Rachel, German for revenge

Holmes seemed quite sure about the dead man on the floor
And proceeded to reveal all the details
Our suspect he was tall, smoked cigars, had feet quite small
And his right hand it had quite long fingernails

(Spoken) ‘You amaze me Holmes…………..’

‘The height of a man, in nine cases out of ten,
Can be told from the length of his stride
There was ash on the floor, there were footprints that were small
And a scratch from his nails upon the wall
