Contact artistIn which Gregson boasts of an arrest to Holmes. Lestrade announces yet another death and Holmes gets excited about some pills.
Part 1: Has Gregson got his Man?
The doorbell rings
And Gregson comes in
‘Congratulate me Holmes’ he says
‘The whole thing’s as clear as day’
‘We have the man, you see
He’s under lock and key
Charpentier’s his name
And he’s a nasty piece of work’
Can it be true?
Has Gregson got his man?
He seems so sure he’s right
But only time will tell
If that man in the cell
Is guilty and that Gregson has his man
Now Drebber was a cad
It seems, with motives bad
Towards the cherished sister
Of Arthur Charpentier
Alice was her name
And Drebber had no shame
He accosted her just as her brother
Walked in and he went mad!
It must be true
That Gregson has his man
The facts all point towards his guilt
On that we’re sure
But who’s that at the door?
Lestrade is here with news he’s keen to tell….
Part 2: Stangerson is Dead!
‘Stangerson has been found dead this morning’
Lestrade told us then continued with his tale
‘I found him stabbed and dead with blood all over
And “rache” on the wall…’ Lestrade went pale
‘Oh, and I found a telegram with “J H is in Europe” on it
And I also found a couple of pills’
Part 3: Pills
Holmes got quite excited when he heard about those pills
It seemed to bring up quite a flush upon his cheeks
He turned and said ‘Dear Watson, would you be so kind
And fetch that terrier who’s been ill for some weeks?’
One pill is deadly
One pill is not
You’re either fine or out of time
Depends on which one you’ve got
Holmes he gave the first pill to that poorly mutt
And we all stood there, watching that poor beast
Nothing happened - Holmes put down half the other pill
Before long, that dog it was deceased
‘It’s as I suspected’ said Holmes
‘And, if I’m not mistaken, our killer should shortly reveal himself
