Alison Knowles was born in New York City in 1933. She is a visual artist known for her soundworks, installations, performances, publications and association with Fluxus, the experimental avant-garde group formally founded in 1962. Among her work within the Fluxus movement, Knowles collaborated with John Cage to produce Notations, a
book of experimental composition, and Coeurs Volants, a print composed with Marcel Duchamp. Her event score Make a Salad drew an audience of over 3000 people to the Tate Long Weekend in 2008.
