“Burn the World” (by Grand Mal)
Named after a form of a seizure, Bill Whitten’s aural experiment Grand Mal has almost the same heart-wrenching effect. Almost. “Lower Yer Heart,” off sixth album Clandestine Songs (out July 20 via the Grover label), begins with quiet piano drops and guitar strums between multi-layered exaltations to the power of love. Then, in the fashion of Architecture In Helsinki, the sweet ditty collects speed and instruments to cresendo into a full-blown rock ‘n’ roll anthem, complete with crashing cymbals and hard electric-guitar chords. You’ll be throwing yer fist in the air in agreement to this testament of letting go to your reservations and submitting entirely to somebody’s lovin’.
