At 88 BPM, The 88 is in absolutely no hurry, and this turns out to be exactly right. A deep, groovy drum pattern establishes a pocket so comfortable you want to move into it permanently, whilst a smooth bass guitar line adds buttery warmth underneath. Mellotron pads provide vintage character, and the overall production has that particular old-school hip-hop quality - unhurried, cool, and supremely confident in its own appeal without feeling the need to announce it. It's laid back in the way that only music with real substance can be, because anything less would simply sound tired rather than relaxed.
