Switch Me On commits to its decade with the cheerful totality of someone who has decided that the 1980s were correct about everything and sees no reason to revisit that position. Sampled reverb-laden drums provide the specific sound of the era - the Linn LM-1 drum machine, whose snare is one of the most immediately recognisable sounds in popular music - whilst classic analogue synth brass adds the motivational sweep that 80s pop used to inspire people to exercise and achieve things and generally feel that improvement was both possible and imminent. The cool, determined edge lifts it above pure pastiche into something genuinely useful. It fades out, as all proper 80s tracks do.
