Summer Calypstep was made during one of those precious 2-3 days per year when the UK actually experiences summer, which meant sacrificing actual sunshine for the studio - a trade-off that Shane considers a reasonable creative choice and everyone else can admire from a distance. Steel drums carry the main melody with the bright, warm resonance that immediately evokes beach settings and good decisions, whilst a phat bassline provides the low-end cool and an easy beat keeps the whole thing moving with laid-back momentum. The result is simultaneously sunny and somehow motivational - calypso energy with a drive that makes it more useful than pure relaxation music whilst remaining completely pleasant.
