Orville Mulligan's Ragtime Dream invents a genre - Electrorag - and executes it with complete conviction. The ragtime elements comprise a proper five-piece band: piano provides the characteristic syncopated rhythm, double bass walks with period authenticity, drums keep the classic ragtime time, clarinet embellishes melodically, and trumpet adds bright lively energy. Alongside this, contemporary EDM production arrives with fat bass, raging kick drums, and searing electronic leads that have absolutely no business being in 1920 and are entirely delighted about it. The ragtime parts are sometimes aged with a 78rpm sizzle for additional historical texture.
