The "paid protester" claim is one of the oldest tricks in the authoritarian playbook — and it has been debunked every single time it's been used. The paid protester claim exists for one reason: if the protests are organic, they're legitimate. If they're paid, they can be dismissed and crushed. When the government can't answer the moral argument, it attacks the people making it.
