This debut single release from the group known as Unthunk might appear to be nothing more than a strange odd ditty on first listen.
However, further listens (especially to the b-side "Spiny Urchin") reveal an uncharacteristic and deceptively complex creation. There is an intent and purpose being every sound, even if it sounds a bit goofy. Either way, we believe this release will turn into a quiet cult classic.
The members of Unthunk (or main member) is working on new material as I post this, and we're very interested to hear what comes next.
Big Boots is based on a guitar pattern by Jon Lundgren. The core words derive from a counter-rhythm to Jon's pattern, extended into a ballad recounting a midnight hike near the West Coast Trail, sung by Geoff Webb.
Spiny Urchin started as a first fret bar chord exercise for the baritone guitar.
