Gauge formed in Arbroath, Scotland, in 1996. After seeing a local punk band called The Panics blast the fuck out of us, guitarist Jase Bennett and I decided to make a band with my classmate Martin Robison on drums. Although we listened to punk before this, it really wasn't until we heard NOFX at a friends house one night, and after watching them playing the Bizarre Festival in 1996 on some German satellite channel, drunk as hell, that we knew what sort of band we wanted to make. This album was recorded and mixed in 12 hours at Seagate Recording
Studio in Dundee, Scotland. It was a challenge that we made ourselves - to practice, record, mix, play a gig and sell the c.d.'s at it, all in 4 days. We accomplished our mission and here it is. All of these songs were written when we were 15 to 18, back in 1996 onwards. I tried my best to leave the lyrics alone, however bad some of it is, to preserve the attitude and naive and youthful energy we had. We played practically every gig drunk as hell, so the songs were written to a degree that we would be able to play them in an inebriated state - so, they are pretty damn simple. But in saying that, they are damn fast and bloody hard to play at the speed they are. All songs were written by Gauge (apart from Flower of Scotland, which we wrote this cover version of) Kevanda lyrics were written by Amanda Reading and Kevin Teviotdale and Bally Joe lyrics were by Jase and Kevin Bowen.
