Abdoulaye Alhassane Toure is a brilliant guitarist, songwriter, producer and bandleader from Niger in West Africa. He co-founded his country's first internationally-touring electric traditional band, Mamar Kassey and now leads his own band as well as accompanying other West African artists.
Abdoulaye's music has a deep bluesy feel incorporating traditional rhythms and pentatonic scales of Niger but also heavily influenced by Malian icon Ali Farka Toure as well as the Southern Saharan Tuareg guitar sound of bands like Tinariwen. On this week's show Abdoulaye plays a few acoustic duets with his buddy, Afropop Worldwide radio producer and author / journalist Banning Eyre and we preview a few tracks from his forthcoming solo debut cd.
