Biography
Space Recorder is a Slovak band that creates a colourful blend of alternative pop, ranging from dreamy, melancholic songs to energetic tracks driven by strong grooves and a fresh, modern sound. Above all, their music is defined by memorable melodies that linger long after the song has ended.
The band recorded their debut album, Backup Universe, in 2006 but did not release it until 2009 via Deadred Records. Songs from this indietronica-inspired album received radio airplay and appeared on several international CD compilations. This helped bring the band to the stage of Pohoda, Slovakia's biggest music festival and one of Europe's most acclaimed, in 2009.
In 2013, Space Recorder underwent a major line-up change and their sound shifted towards a more colourful form of alternative rock full of different moods, textures and emotions. Their second album, You Said Sorry and You Left Me, was released at the end of 2016.
Following this album, the band took another significant step by focusing more directly on Slovak audiences with original lyrics in Slovak. In February 2019, they released the EP 'Chyba je vo mne'.
Later that same year, Space Recorder welcomed a new drummer. This pushed the band's music onto a new trajectory, moving towards simpler yet dynamic rhythmic structures supported by strong melodies and a rich variety of sounds. The band's newer songs have a modern sound that clearly nods to the 1980s. In 2022 and 2023, they released several singles that received considerable attention.
Space Recorder are working on new songs to be released in 2026.
