Jimmy Penguin - Tea on The Moon + Colours
Mikey Fingers - Inertia + bonus mix
his debut album with a beat-tape as a bonus track. The guy has no shortage of beats thats for sure and this is a little deomonstration of what can be done with a bit of dedication and a some intimate experimentation. Compiling 3 years of music and pulling of an album thats both unusually interesting yet lovely in so many ways.
dj troubledsoul & hidden id - a hidden era made clearer
( the lost tapes ) nov 1991 - may 1992
( Troubledsoul ) " I did all the music with one Turntable, Vinyl and a Tascam four track tape recorder using "punch in" and pause button techniques ( no samplers ) to create loops and over dubs. The lyrics were all recorded through a pair of Headphones. We sent the tapes to a few labels and got a great response namely from the UK´s Koldsweat Records and Music Of Life. We played a few concerts, then MC BFast turned to the burgeoning Belfast Club scene as an MC, a few Months later my other Turntable arrived, so I dipped into a seven year scratch hiatus, before returning to Music again. I hope you enjoy this small piece of Irish Hip-Hop Archeology as much as I have reliving it. "

Got a need for a new electronica/ambient/hip-hop artist and don't know where to look? Try Galway, Ireland which is where Jimmy Penguin calls home. Jimmy (who also goes as Jimmy the Hideous Penguin) just released a killer full length release on the always reliable Section 27 label. Sometimes reminiscent of classic Mo' Wax artists like DJ Shadow and Attica Blues who have one foot in hip-hop and another foot in electronica The S27 Double Bluff is one of my favorite new releases on the FMA this year. I listed a few of my favorite tracks below but the whole release is solid. Give it a try and enjoy!

Presenting the first Section 27 release from Jimmy Penguin, one of the people behind Galway’s ‘Community Skratch Games’ , a member of the infamous scratch ensemble ‘Vince Mack Mahon’ and also a Dj / Producer in his own right, comprising two seperate EP's - "It's Not Dubstep" and "What A Mess" - into one unified body, the affectionately named "The S27 Double Bluff" brings a high standard of emotive electro hip-hop arrangements fused with piano and strings to give a slick sound and another shining entry to his alarmingly prolific catalogue of music.
