Exótica, new EP from Vate

Exótica is a momentary comeback to the electronic cumbia genre. Exótica and Excéntrica are two tracks made originally for the documentary “Los exóticos” by Michael Ramos Araizaga. Both combine, as in the Cachonda and Diablo albums, the sound of cumbia with electronic music. Porno Vector y Spexie complement the EP with a more techno sound.

Cover art by Guillermo Ariete.

Malportado Kids - Mi Concha (EP)

On a day that will forever be known in infamy as “Malportaday,” the bi-lingual duo of Victoria Ruiz and Joey Defrancesco, otherwise known as MALPORTADO KIDS are releasing their first mixtape today.  Their stripped down, baille and dancehall infused brand of electronic politico-punk is even more resuscitative than shoving your face in a tub of coffee grinds and starting a riot. When’s the last time you felt empowered by a full arsenal of samples? Bite into this lil’ sample of the EP with these hefty cuts, “Soy La Pocha” and “Fuego.” Prepare to feel despot dispatching power surges.  If you are so inspired—go see them on tour this month and learn that the revolution will be caked in glitter.  The rest of the EP can be downloaded at their bandcamp

November Playlist

The key for listening to this November Compilation of Brazilian songs is to... wait for the unexpected.

Even though there are a lot of different styles in this group of tracks (rock, trip-hop, electronic, hip-hop, cumbia, carimbó, experimental, instrumental), we can say that almost all of them do a great job of playing around with the rhythm and order of things. If the first 20 seconds of the track are not exactly your style, wait for the next 20 seconds, and it will probably change drastically.

The artists featured on this mix include Pipo Pegoraro, Mamma CadelaKarina BuhrMassa GrossaNSISTADJ IncidentalMacaco BongThe Soundscapes and Seychelles.
