Babi Audi Live on CKUT

On a very cold January afternoon, CKUT welcomed Montreal's own Babi Audi in the studio to record a live session. There she wove us a sonic tapestry of echoed vocals layered over chopped & screwed samples from some of her fave DJs. One half of the performance art-driven duo Institutional Prostitution, Melissa Gagne has been working solo under the moniker Babi Audi for the past year or two and she's been getting lots of attention from the city's curious ears as of late -- and for good reason.

Zs for Your Ears

Back in December, CKUT was lucky enough to have NYC noise-jazz punks Zs join us in the studio during a very special episode of New Shit. In a switcheroo from their usual sax/drums/guitar setup, they plugged in an array of pedals and computers and mixers and conjured a noise so mighty that it made the floors shake. They dubbed their improvised piece "Wolf Government," and it's a real jammer.

MP3 of the Day: Ollie North, "Cold Apppearaance"

Ex-New Englander and Montreal transplant, Jack Deming, aka Ollie North and his March 2012 release, "Lindenfels" EP are welcome new additions to the FMA, courtesy of Montreal curator, CKUT.
The first track, "Cold Apppearaance" might not make you feel like the abominable snowman, but it will "conjure up pastoral ambiances that envelop your imagination and carry you to a place where you can take pause and breathe some fresh air" (from "The Affective Music Sphere of Ollie North") and if that place happens to contain mythical inhabitants who can bring relief in the sweltering months, then so much the better.

MP3 of the Day: Isle of Pine, "Coat of Arms (Farther Away)"

Isle of Pine is the solo project of Montreal's Tim Beeler, whose self-imposed recording limitations saturate his personable songwriting with a familiar 4-track tape hiss bliss. Recorded through a $4 karaoke microphone, And Farther Away is brought to us by curator CKUT out of McGill University. Coat of Arms (Farther Away) is the album opener, but be sure to check out 1 (Maine) if you're looking for even more Neutral Milk Hotel vibes.
