In this episode, Cheyenne Hohman, RFC host and current Director of the FMA, was joined by Shivaun Watchorn, the archivist-in-chief for the Maximum Rocknroll Archive Project, which is currently underway and aims to preserve all issues of the long-running punk/hardcore fanzine, episodes of their radio show dating back decades, and contain a fully searchable listing of their entire record collection, which currently holds more than 49,000 pieces of vinyl.

The archive, expected to launch in early 2017, has also been featured in a couple of print interviews if you want to read more about it.

The Ontario Independent Music Archive

Calling all independent musicians and record collectors from Ontario, Canada! If you're an independent musician, involved in the music industry in any way or are just a huge fan of music, we need your help:

The Ontario Independent Music Archive (OIMA) will collect and preserve new and older independent music from across the province of Ontario, Canada including releases that were only issued in limited runs on cassette and vinyl. Through a Creative Commons license listeners will have free access to all content on the archive, giving them the chance to dig into Ontario's musical past while also discovering new independent artists in all creative styles. The project is being undertaken by the National Campus and Community Radio Association (www.ncra.ca) in partnership with the Music Association of Canada, and is funded by a similar grant to what got the FMA up and running.

We're particularly looking for music that's not easily accesible online or that's in danger of being lost or forgotten about, but anything that is underrepresented and sufficiently Ontarian is welcome on the archive.

The full site is expected to go live this December. In the meantime, check out:

:: The OIMA website
:: Facebook group
:: OIMA @ the National Campus and Community Radio Association (information about Regional Archive Coordinators)
