Jan Turkenburg, born and raised in a small village near Amsterdam,
inherited his father's passion for music, started to write his own songs
at the age of 16, busked the streets of several Belgian and Dutch
cities, got his degree as a music teacher at the age of 33, specialized
in teaching music at primary/ elementary school and kindergarten,
discovered the Internet and the musical possibilities of the computer
around 2000 which completely turned his way of life upside down.
So far, Jan has released three albums on the Internet:
A Fifth of Splogman, released by Comfort Stand Recordings
Splogman's Sixth Sense, released by WM Recordings
and several separate songs like:
"Oddio Theme Song Part One," his contribution to Oddio Celebration Compilation; "Wooden shoes in Tirol" with his companion Wilma, his contribution to Wakka Chikka Wakka Chikka. He is most proud of "In My Spaceship" on Comfort Stand's Interplanetary Materials
which he created together with his pupils of the Geert Grote School, of
which he says, "It represents exactly what my music is all about."
Apart from his English Internet activities (www.splogman.com), Jan also makes a Dutch musical website for kids (www.meneerjan.nl).
On Radio Zwolle [Netherlands] he supervises the classical music shows, and he is the "father" of Vreemde Geluiden (= strange sounds), a weekly show also featuring Marco Kalnenek and Ton Rückert.
