Ralph White & the Horaflora Soundsystem (1 Albums, 1 Tracks)
--About the artists: Ralph White (Austin, TX) has recorded or performed with Jandek, Sir Richard Bishop, Michelle Shocked, Michael Hurley, and 13th Floor Elevators' Powell St. John. Inducted to the Austin Music Hall of Fame as a core member of legendary bluegrass band Bad Livers, he left to explore ancient music in remote regions of Namibia, Australia, Mexico and Louisiana. “His solo work is possessed of a lonesome spark, exaggerating the implied drone at the heart of the music of Dock Boggs and The Stanley Brothers... White plays wooden six-string banjo, violin, accordion and kalimba and his voice has a high, eerie quality... extremely psychedelic" -(David Keenan, The Wire UK)
Horaflora is San Francisco’s Raub Roy, an electro-acoustic innovator who studied with Dan Warner and Christoph Cox (co-editors of Audio Culture: Readings in Modern Music). He came to focus on new possibilities in micro sound, field recording, and handmade electro-acoustic instruments including balloon-driven trombone mouthpieces set against hand percussion. Raub met Ralph as both artists returned from long musical sojourns by bicycle: Ralph through Namibia, Raub on his cycledelic tour from Maine to Georgia. That each had figured music would take care of hunger was just one indication they both forge reality for themselves; this incredible album is another.
