Matt Carlson is a musician and composer living in Portland, OR. He has been involved in the Northwest experimental music community for over 5 years, playing various roles in differing contexts including free-improvisation, contemporary composition, avant-rock, pop, drone/noise, and electro-acoustic music. He has worked with Gust Burns, The Seattle Chamber Players, Kazutaka Nomura (PWRFL POWER), Seth Nehil, Tom Swafford, Artha New Music Ensemble, Matt Marble, Jason E. Anderson, JP Jenkins, Gregory Reynolds, and The St. Helens String Quartet. He is also a member of both the minimalist electronic-drone trio Bonus and experimental pop band Parenthetical Girls, both of whom have toured the US as well as Europe and released records on labels such as Collective Jyrk, Slender Means Society, Oedepis Records, Root Strata, and Acurela, as well as his own Bucket Factory label. In 2004 he was a founding member of the gallery 1412 collective and venue in Seattle, and in 2005 he received BM in Music Composition from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle where he studied with Janice Giteck and Jarrad Powell.
