After a well deserved break and a year long production over Labyrinthes, a third album released in Canada in February 2009 on Dare to Care Records, Malajube is back on stage. The band kicked-off their tour last march which, up until the end of the year, will bring them around the world. Nominated for the prestigious Polaris prize this year, (the winner will be announced on September 21th at a Gala where all nominees perform), Labyrinthes is already and surely, leaving its mark.
The pop/rock group litteraly took over the indie rock scene over the years, since the release of their debut record Le Compte Complet and more recently has drawn a wide amount of praise for their second album Trompe-l’Oeil, a masterpiece that found his way of springing out of the already artistically rich local music scene, with their unique and original sound.
In addition of proudly winning four Felix over the years in their native province,Malajube has extensively toured the country and abroad playing festivals and events such as the SXSW, CMJ Music Marathon, Osheaga, Les Eurokéenes and Les Francofolies de Montréal, turning on industry-heads and listeners alike. Regardless of the language barrier, Trompe-l’Oeil was released in the U.S. on Dare to Care label, (October 31st, 2006) in Europe, (on the German label City Slang in Spring 2007) and in Japan. The band achieved to please critics from all around; The New York Times, NME, Pitchfork, Brooklyn Vegan, Wired, Fader, Filter, Spin, Penthouse, Men’s Health Journal, Vanity Fair and more, all praising Malajube’s music in a voice unison.
