Two Free Folk Albums by Kuupuu

Finland's Jonna Karanka shares two recordings from her fantastic musical project Kuupuu.
These improvised soundscapes, playful loops, and organic timbre experiments may not sound like "folk" in the traditional sense. But Kuupuu is a key part of Finland's Psych-Folk movement, which includes projects like Avarus, Kemialliset Ystävät, Kiila, Uton, Es and Paavoharju. In a video clip after the jump, Al Jazeera's Artsworld program spotlights Kuupuu and frequent collaborator Lau Nau.
Lau Nau and Kuupuu can also be heard as a duo live at ISSUE Project Room during the Minor Musics: Finland series, featured here by Matthew Walker.
One album available on the FMA is Lumen Tähden, an LP on Time-Lag Records which is an essential label if you're into these new folk sounds (also the first label to issue FMA heroes Big Blood on vinyl). The other is the rare Spring High Spiritual Spree Spray Ray cassette pictured at right.
