...it's late...so very late in the evening. I sit, glass of water and toast at my side, editing our next big thing, which really isn't even that big in the greater scheme of things...when you consider the size and shape of the universe as we know it. The film is good...corny, yes, at times, but it has a certain sense to it, mostly due to the talented actors and willing participants who have helped to shape it.
I sit here in front of my macbook pro, manipulating time and space...words and music...in it, but somehow distant from the din and tussle of the moment...warm in my house...comfortable in my burgundy chair, tapping rhythmically at the keys building my view of the project.
The sound needs work...so much work, but I'm sure like anything, we will find a way to overcome even the almost inaudible (almost) buzz from the wireless mics, the incessant drone of the low flying jet and the consistent sighs of our main actor...yes, we'll find a way.
Perhaps we'll cover them with a deft and well-crafted piece of music. Music can repair even the most taunted of souls, why can't it fix the merciless clatter of the well-intentioned boom mic operator who couldn't sit still?
...I have faith in music...I believe it will.

...it's been a long, long weekend and shaping up to be an even longer week. We (my wife, my son and a few very patient and wonderful volunteers) wrapped shooting on our film/art project for the local literary event here in Spokane WA. It was cold, rainy at times and through it all what kept me on track? Coffee, yes...but what else? Ibuprofen...yes again, but what really kept me going?
Music...yes, as corny as it may sound, it did...specifically the inner soundtrack in my mind of all the music I have found on this archive...this island, FMA.
It's been about two weeks since I found it. I heard 'ghost' playing on a video review of a camera I'm thinking about buying(no $$$ so all I can do is think) and I backtracked it here. What an amazing treasure this place is. So many talented individuals, so much wealth.
As an indie filmmaker (and a poor one at that) I can tell you that it's damn hard finding quality music to help me paint the pictures that constantly flow through my brain...that want to live on my canvas of choice...that so desperately need the brushstrokes of a well constructed melody...a foundation to allow my images to travel across. A foundation of sound.
Mostly I would just like to say thank you to all of you who believe in collaboration, sharing...because there is strength in it...as artists.
