Is it possible for an expanding capitalist economy to remain within safe ecological limits or is it doomed to fail ? Capitalism requires constant growth, profit and production with an increasing population to remain stable. Without sufficient consumption, which creates more demand for production, the cycle would be frozen and capitalism would fail. These mechanisms do not provide incentives for preserving the environment and it falls victim to this compulsive behavior. Is the sharing economy an answer. Is Free Music Archive an example of sharing yet still giving listeners options to support the artist to keep making music.
