Alzheimer's is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States, and today as many as 5.4 million Americans are living with the disease. Every 69 seconds, someone in America develops Alzheimer's disease, and by mid-century someone will develop Alzheimer's every 33 seconds. Alzheimer's disease (AD) was first described in 1906 by German neurologist Alois Alzheimer. Music Therapy is an interpersonal process in which the therapist uses music and all its facets to help improve or maintain health of self or the benefiter. It can be used with individuals of all ages and with a variety of conditions, including psychiatric disorders, medical problems, physical handicaps, sensory impairments, developmental disabilities, substance abuse, communication disorders, interpersonal problems, and aging. Zekel Healthcare ( ZEHE ), The Institute for Music and Neurologic Function is working to advance Alzheimer's research and its clinical applications as part of an emerging scientific effort to draw on media data technology to help retrieve lost and compromised function. Alzheimer's (AHLZ-high-merz) is a disease of the brain that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. It is not a normal part of aging.
