MP3 of the Day: Hypermagic, "Piffy On A Rock"

Introducing London’s Hypermagic, a forest of echoes and polychrome phonographic vibrations inspired by acts like Grouper, Emeralds, Do Make Say Think and Teen Daze. Layers of rustic beats, rusty clicks, shrouded voices, kaleidoscope reverbered guitars and rheumatic feedback. After 4 well-received EPs and a full-length (everything on free download) here are new sonic textures and rhytmes that will ride you along a time warping tunnel headed straight for the moon. Stay tuned for more music at Magic Rub Cassettes and check out the interview.

Steven Smirney - Deeply Wrong Merits EP

Steven Smirney is Luca Murgia, but he is also well kwown as one half (with Kae) of DIVA, the moniker that won the Dumbo Gets Mad remix contest with that luscious take.

Coming all the way from the sunny Sardinia with his electro-hip-pop project (inspired by Anticon and Morr music but slightly club oriented), he re-located in Venice, Rome and now Lisboa. He played drums for several years, studied trombone, talked slowly with the piano and talked a little bit faster with computers, ending up playing just before of acts like Caribou, Jamie Lidell, Apparat, Ladytron, Fuck Buttons and more.

Deeply Wrong Merits EP is on free download on Bandcamp just in exchange of an email address and it features remixes from another cool Bad Panda artist (#71) Venice and Acid Andee and two acapellas version ready to be remixed!

Read the interview with Luca after the jump!

Nineteen Eight Eight - Beach Flats EP

Bad Panda Records has been in love with loop-based music lately. They have never hidden the love for Monster Rally and they recently enjoyed new albums by Tiger & Woods and The Field. And they always loved William Basinski. It's now time for some Nineteen Eight Eight love.

The Parish of Little Clifton – Septemberish 7″

The Parish of Little Clifton is a 19 years-old multi instrumentalist from Canada. Started as an acoustic folk project, within the last year he's been working on electronic-based music, trying to keep the organic elements of real instruments by using samples. After an EP on Cultus Vibes (Teen Daze's label), Septemberish 7'' comes out on Bad Panda Records and it is a taste of the LP - Portia - that will be released this fall and that will feature his sister, Hannah Flom, Teen Daze, Manitoulin (HAHA) and Bank Heist.

What The Parish of Little Clifton has become now is a way for me to be intimate and honest with myself. I have realized that once a piece of music is heard by another (especially listened to by another) it is no longer mine. For now that song is someone else's to emote to. What "The Parish" is now, in some senses, is a world that i am sharing with other people. The songs that i write (especially in the lyrical ones) have very intimate connections to realities in my own life. So sometimes i will hide the vocals in the mix so that only i know what i am saying. That way when i play a song live or listen to it with friends, everyone else will familiarize themselves with the melody perhaps--or the mystery, all the while i am being reminding of some truth or reality that i have been opened to.

Taking inspiration from the summer-spots, these two songs are dedications to a very-present boyhood. Inspired by two lakes and the countless times i have found joy in their creation. "It's Okay, Roseanne" brings about emotions that i can pinpoint to the very afternoon that i experienced them, jumping off cliffs into a semi-warm lake. "Echo Island" is a beat-heavy wash of hope and mystery that has very often visited me in the last few months as i prepare for the next season in my life.

Fruit Flesh - Cater Gator

Fruit Flesh is the solo project of twenty-year old Jake Tobin. It's about Florida and people as animals as people. We can introduce his music like a combination of Panda Bear, Sufjan Stevens and tUnE-yArDs.

After this 7'' digital single on Bad Panda, he will release a split cassette via Wonder Beard Tapes (Teen Daze, Blackbird Blackbird, Walsh, Coma Cinema, etc), so keep an eye to this weird psychedelic pop project, we predict exciting stuff!

memotone - Bad Panda EP

William Yates is a talented multi-instrumentalist and producer from south Wiltshire, UK working under the name 'memotone'. His sound is made up of layered instrumentation over the top of field recordings, conversation, atmospheres and electronica programming all tied up with live acoustic come wonky MPC built beats, inspired by sounds of Susumu Yokota, Mount Kimbie, Shlohmo, Murcof, Flying Lotus and Four Tet.

We saw one of his videos on youtube and have loved his stuff ever since (the prolific composer already had an EP on Black Acre and other two EPs coming out on september and october) and found out that he was recently selected by Gilles Peterson for his always-amazing "All winners" show on BBC1. We wouldn't be surpised to see him hitting big soon, meanwhile please enjoy the free EP he made for Bad Panda Records and check out the interview after the jump!
