Golden Hits - Cassedits

Golden Hits is a newly minted sound family formed by dublab drone dreamers Ben Knight (the Tyde), frosty (Adventure Time), Jimmy Tamborello (Dntel), Katie Byron (LA Building Club) and Nanny Cantaloupe (Brainsucking Peanunanners).  Together they create spontaneous soundscapes to elevate ears in unique environments.

Please enjoy this ethereal mix of washed-out drones and glistening tinkles from Golden Hits' upcoming release Cassedits. You can hear more Golden Hits on their blog: http://goldenhits.tumblr.com

WHITE RAINBOW - LIVE DUBLAB SPROUT SESSION (09.19.09)

We love when our friend White Rainbow comes to town. He’s known for having the finest, most potent sound machines and is super generous with his product. As soon as he started recording this surreal sprout session the walls in our studio began to melt, the cables tangled themselves into intricate designs on the floor and time started to move at a snail’s pace. When we woke up, there was no trace of the White Rainbow. Was it all a dream? Is this reality?

Find more to freak out to with this set from White Rainbow at our Tonalism happening as part of the all night GLOW Festival in Santa Monica, CA.

Javelin - "On It On It" on the dublab decade proton drive!

Javelin cruised into the dublab studio for a stunning session in support of the DUBLAB DECADE PROTON DRIVE fundraiser. Their new, live action is like a day-glo disco soundsystem energetically exploding into a million rays of right-on light. Dig this version of “on it on it” and look forward to a full-flossed-out final version on Javelin’s upcoming release on Luaka Bop due in April 2010. Expect hall & oates (haulin’ oats). Infinite thanks to Javelin for their creativity and support of dublab. We hope their positive energy inspires you to take action and give a proton grant today!

10 Years of Future Roots Radio

dublab is celebrating 10 years of turning you on!

Throughout this decade, we've been fortunate enough to have some of our favorite creative friends record live sets at our studio in Los Angeles. We've welcomed them with arms and ears wide open, and made sure we're looking sharp for their arrival. We've strapped bass cabs to our backs, carried keytars up flights of stairs and lit countless sticks of incense to enable these spontaneous sounds.

"sprout sessions" have no boundaries and we encourage these awesome artists to play (or not play) any thing/way/where they like! We'd say the sky's the limit, but things tend to get pretty cosmic in our neck of the woods.

We've dusted off our crumbly CD-Rs and scoured our hard drives to bring you some of our favorite sessions from the past 10 years. We hope you enjoy listening to these precious gems as much as we enjoyed gathering them.

Help support another decade of dublab by becoming a proton today!

matthewdavid's DUBLAB DECADE THEME SONG!

Our futuristic friend matthewdavid is a sorcerer of psychedelic cassette sounds. Late at night he summons ghostly antique loops and channels the sweat of a thousand late-night discotheques. His telepathic powers will make even the advanced listener wobble through multiple dimensions. But fear not! matthewdavid uses his wizardry for good! He recently culled this track to commemorate dublab's 10th year of creative action, and now we share it with the FMA in hopes you'll spread it far and wide!

You too can help expand dublab's bright future! The DUBLAB DECADE PROTON DRIVE fundraiser is happening now until November 24th, and the Labrat djs will be broadcasting live, sharing electrifying sounds to inspire your support.

Find more of matthewdavid's psychedelia on the FMA from this special session he recorded live at dublab, as well as his contributions to our on-going art project INTO INFINITY.

Catwalk's dreary CA sounds live @ dublab!

Upon hearing Catwalk’s music it would be easy to think they were from Oxford, England instead of Oxnard, California. Their indie-pop jams are more likely to get the rain misting than the sun shining and that’s why we love them. Us California residents dream of dark, billowing clouds and melancholy showers to break the bright monotony of our West Coast weather. We were so happy to have Catwalk come play some of their rain songs live. So no matter where you live please enjoy this special session. For more Catwalk please visit: http://www.myspace.com/catwalkca.

Micachu & the Shapes - live live live @ dublab!

Micachu & the Shapes are one of the funnest bands to watch perform. We trust you’ll open up your imagination wide as you’re listening to this great band fly through some tunes full of quirkiness and punch. Think of the incredible gestures they made while making these sounds. Maybe your Micachu & the Shapes are beating drums, ukulele and keys in a jumpy stomping jam or maybe they’re floating far above the Earth dropping notes to the tops of trees below so that birds may form nests for their young to fly skyward and flap a wing hello back at Micachu. Or possibly these sounds are evoking images of a robotic roadrunner looping around a track as the audience stomps and mashes the floor with enthusiastic cheers of encouragement. Whatever your visions may involve we hope you enjoy this “sprout session” from one of our favorite bands. micachu.com
