Tribal-psych duo Prince Rama, a 2011 Artist-in-Residence at ISSUE, advises participants (not merely attendees) to wear some "comfortable clothing and running shoes" this Sunday, February 20 (FREE | RSVP), for a full-out exorcise routine. Squishing exercise and exorcism into one fifteen-minute event (for the possessed yet crunched for time?) their performance will "look at musical performance as ritual, musicians as shamans, audience as initiates, records as magic portallic fossils of frozen time, and utopia as a medium between the physical and metaphysical realms."
I’ve put up a short sample of their 15-minute exorcise routine, which will be conducted every hour (on the hour) from 4 pm until midnight this Sunday. This excerpt, from UTOPIA=NO PERSON, is part one of a three-part Artist-in-Residence series in which the duo assumes the identity of leaders of a pseudo-utopian cult called THE NOW AGE. But to really get into the mindset it's necessary to follow the motto (or "existential battle cry," in the words of Taraka & Nimai Larson) of the famous aerobics instructor Paul Eugene: "Let yourself go."
